Jordan Caterers - Statement of Sustainability
In business since 1979, Jordan Caterers, Event Planners & Corporate Services continues to build on its commitment to a local sustainable food system and economy. Because of Jordan's interest in the sustainable food movement, the company was selected to coordinate Celebration of Connecticut Farms in 2005. That same year Jeff Rapoport, Principal of Jordan Caterers, worked to found Friends of Boulder Knoll whose mission is to educate the local public in responsible land use. When possible Jordan purchases organic and locally grown food directly from local farmers and designs menus based on the seasons' local bounty.
Demand is increasing for natural and hormone free meats; organic vegetables, flours, and sugar; free-range eggs, and a host of "Fair Trade Certified" and green products. Every party where Jordan provides real plates, cutlery and glassware significantly reduces the amount of waste headed for a landfill. When an event calls for disposable items, Jordan can provide fully biodegradable or compostable paper goods. We also use recycled garbage bags, recycled and unbleached napkins and phosphate-free dish soap.
We are working from within the national and global food system to support a local and sustainable food system and economy. We request that our distributors buy from local producers and from socially and environmentally responsible producers. We select products and services meeting standards that are as "green" as possible. Although we rely on the local, national and global food systems to meet the needs of a diverse group of clients, we are a source of pressure for an increasingly more local, sustainable, and socially responsible food system.
